Message from Ms Walker
We have certainly experienced a mixture of weather this week, with sunshine and showers. Despite this, we have been fortunate to dodge most of the rain and continue enjoying our wonderful outdoor spaces whenever possible. We are all now hoping that next week brings some more settled and warmer weather so that we can fully embrace the summer term.
Year 6 SATs
This week, our Year 6 pupils have shown exceptional determination during their SATs. They have worked incredibly hard and have truly embodied our school values of courage and resilience, persevering through each of the four days even when they felt a little nervous. We are immensely proud of them. I would also like to extend my sincere thanks to Mrs Armitage and Mrs Beasley for their excellent support as invigilators, ensuring everything ran smoothly. A big thank you goes to the rest of the school community as well, whose respect and quietness during the tests helped create a calm environment where Year 6 could focus and give their very best.
This week's news is from Chestnut Class
Chestnut class is learning about structures in DT this term. Children in Chestnut class worked in teams, they planned, designed, tested, analysed and evaluated their bridges using weights. They showed resilience and a lot of perseverance to make the strongest bridge.
Finlay and Rafferty said, “One of our prototype bridges was strong enough to hold a dictionary, although our final bridge collapsed but we kept showing resilience.”
“We used paper clips, straws and tape to make our bridge. We folded our paper into quarters and added straws to make the base sturdy. It held a full metal water bottle,” said Rosie.
Amy said, “For our prototype we used a beam bridge but realised it was not as strong as the truss bridge. The truss bridge looked nicer too.”
“We connected paper clips to the straws. We made them into triangles and braced them with three extra straws underneath for strength. It held a dictionary and a full water bottle,” said Sienna.
Fleur added, “We made a structure of triangles which we attached together to make our bridge. Our bridge held three dictionaries.”
“Our first bridge was unsuccessful but we persevered and discovered we needed to tape the paper clips to keep the bridge up. Ours buckled when the weight added, “said Layla.
When we compared our final bridges with the prototypes that were made by paper straws we found that the bamboo straws used for the final designed bridges, really helped with the strength.

Updates & Reminders
Safety
A friendly reminder to all parents and carers: children in Year 4 and below must be accompanied onto the school site by an adult and should not be dropped off to walk in alone. This applies to all arrivals, including Breakfast Club and late arrivals to school.
Children in Years 5 and 6 may arrive unaccompanied if they have permission from their parents/carers; however, they must not be responsible for bringing younger siblings onto the school site.
The Parish Hall car park and surrounding area present significant challenges. Please do not park on the corner, obscuring the view round the bend, as this is dangerous: this is not a safe space to leave a vehicle. Please supervise young children closely in this area.
Allergies
Just a reminder we have children in school with serious allergies please do not send your child in with items containing nuts, this includes chocolate spread, peanut butter and products containing a chocolate filling like Nutella or chocolate bars containing nuts. We have had a few occasions recently where we have found items have been sent into school in packed lunches which contain nuts.
