Message from Ms Walker

Our school values are at the heart of everything we do. These values – courage, integrity, resilience and compassion – are woven through our daily experiences. As our children grow and develop, they become increasingly confident in talking about these values and are able to recognise and celebrate them in themselves and in others.

As in previous years, yesterday was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our pupils. Our Governors joined us in assembly, where the Chair of Governors presented the annual Governors’ Achievement Awards. These awards recognise children who consistently live out our school values in their daily actions.

This year’s awards were presented to Marni, Selena, Iona, Maxwell, Hector, Sienna and Olivia. We are incredibly proud of each of them for being such positive role models within our school community.

A group of eighteen pupils had the opportunity to meet with our Governors to share their experiences of school life. During these conversations, the children spoke thoughtfully about their recent achievements, the subjects they enjoy most, and those they find more challenging.

They also discussed the strategies they use when learning feels difficult and were able to reflect on how previously acquired knowledge supports their learning today. It was a wonderful opportunity for our pupils to articulate their learning and for Governors to gain valuable insight into life in our classrooms.

This week's news is from Oak Class (Year 6)

SATs

There has been lots going on in Year 6 over the past two weeks! Last week, we completed our SATs. We found them quite difficult but manageable and we powered through with resilience. We felt well prepared and confident going into the assessments.

We prepared by working through revision books, working hard in class and attending after-school workshops. We would also like to thank all the other classes for being so quiet while we were working, so that we could concentrate and do our best.

It was lovely to see Mrs Beasley and Mrs Armitage again, as they came into school to be our invigilators. We send our thanks to them too.

IMPS

IMPS stands for Injury Minimisation Programme for Schools. Yesterday, Sheena came into school and showed us how to help people who are hurt. We learned how to use an AED machine, how to put someone in the recovery position, how to perform chest compressions and what to do if someone is choking or has burnt themselves.

We hope we never have to use this knowledge, but we are glad we now know what to do if it is ever needed.

Bake Sale

Reminder: our craft and cake sale is today after school! We are raising money for our end-of-year trip, so please come along and bring lots of money! Thank you!

Chicks

In Beech Class, we have been hatching chicks in an incubator.  The first one hatched on Tuesday 19th May, followed shortly by another one. Since then, 6 more have hatched. We have named them: Angela, Jimmy, Little Miss Cheep, Violet, Pipkin, Hero, Galaxy and Joseph.  In maths, we are learning about mass, so we are going to weigh the chicks and measure their height. This is tricky because they keep moving, and the chicks are so light that the scale on the weighing scales is too big!

Y6 Bake Sale

We’re looking forward to welcoming you to our school bake sale after school on Thursday 21st May! Do come along and enjoy a fantastic selection of delicious cakes, along with the opportunity to browse and purchase a variety of blank exercise books and creative crafts. Thank you, as always, for your continued support!

Rocksteady

Coming soon! Rock and pop band lessons with Rocksteady.

Exciting news! From Thursday 17th September, we will be partnering Rocksteady Music School to deliver fun and inclusive rock and pop band lessons, right here at Launton CofE Primary School. These weekly music lessons will take place in school and are led by professional musicians who make learning music fun.

Rocksteady workshop will take place on Thursday 4th June.

To introduce the children to Rocksteady, workshops will be held in school on Thursday 4th June. These will be fun and interactive sessions giving children the chance to try out the instruments and learn all about being a musician in a band.

Please look out for a letter from Rocksteady, which your child will bring home with them after their workshop.

Safety

A friendly reminder to all parents and carers: children in Year 4 and below must be accompanied onto the school site by an adult and should not be dropped off to walk in alone. This applies to all arrivals, including Breakfast Club and late arrivals to school.

Children in Years 5 and 6 may arrive unaccompanied if they have permission from their parents/carers; however, they must not be responsible for bringing younger siblings onto the school site.

The Parish Hall car park and surrounding area present significant challenges. Please do not park on the corner, obscuring the view round the bend, as this is dangerous: this is not a safe space to leave a vehicle. Please supervise young children closely in this area.

Allergies

Just a reminder we have children in school with serious allergies please do not send your child in with items containing nuts, this includes chocolate spread, peanut butter and products containing a chocolate filling like Nutella or chocolate bars containing nuts. We have had a few occasions recently where we have found items have been sent into school in packed lunches which contain nuts.
